プライド・アンド・グローリー

『プライド・アンド・グローリー』 オジー・オズボーンのバンドのギタリストとして有名になったザック・ワイルドの初ソロプロジェクトがプライド・アンド・グローリーだった。元々クラシック・ロックとサザン・ロックが大好きなワイルドがオジーの曲でその味あまり出せなかった。そして、レーナード・スキンヘッドっていうホビーバンドを始まった。レーナード・スキンヘッドがレーナード・スキナード、レッド・ツェッペリン、オールマン・ブラザーズ・バンドなどのカバー曲をやった。プライド・アンド・グローリーに名前を変えて、新しいバンドの作曲もその影響された。 １９９４年にアルバムを出した。さすがにクラシック・ロックとサザン・ロックとその当時のメタルのミックスだ。メインがギターとベースとドラムズなんだけど、ピアノもハーモニカもマンドリンも入ている。そして、驚くのが一曲目の’Losin' Your Mind'がバンジョーで始まる。 残念ながら、このアルバムとツアーの後にプライド・アンド・グローリーがブラック・レーベル・ソサイアティに変わって、もっとヘヴィーなサウンドになった。

Pride & Glory

Pride & Glory Although he had occasionally shown his love for Southern and Classic rock with Ozzy Osbourne, particularly on No More Tears, it wasn't until his first bona fide solo project, Pride & Glory, that Zakk Wylde was really allowed to indulge that side of his musical personality. Originally known as Lynyrd Skinhead, the band was formed as an outlet for Wylde to play Skynyrd, Allmans and Zeppelin covers for fun. When the project developed into his first serious solo project, those influences greatly informed the new originals that he wrote. The resulting album, also called Pride & Glory, was released in 1994. It's a fascinating hybrid of his influences, with sledgehammer modern metal riffs leading into Skynyrd-like choruses and Elton John-style piano ballads giving way to those signature, speed-picked, squealing solos. It also features a variety of instrumentation that probably wouldn't fly in the Ozzy camp. The main riff of 'Shine On' is doubled with blues harp and 'Lovin' Woman' is elevated by mandolin in the chorus. Most shockingly, the opening track, 'Losin' Your Mind', begins with banjo, albeit playing a line that's more Zeppelin than Deliverance. Most surprising is how well Wylde adapts to the role of frontman. Unlike Lee or Gillis, Wylde chooses to sing his new tunes himself. He shows himself to have an effective, if mannered, voice, perfectly suited to the boozy, hard luck and bad women atmosphere of the album. He is more than ably supported by Brian Tichy on drums and James LoMenzo on bass who provide a huge sound for an ostensible trio. Unfortunately, this was the only album released by the band. Wylde started his Black Label Society and continued to work with Ozzy.
